Alumni Association Letter
May 2006
Dear Friend,
In 2005 Morris High School became the Morris High School Campus. While the name has changed, the legacy of Morris can and will be preserved through the recently developed Morris High School Alumni Association. The Alumni Association would like you to become a member and take part in this exciting opportunity for community involvement, historical preservation, and educational transformation.
The primary goals of the Alumni Association are to preserve Morris’ proud history and:
- Act as a vehicle for communication and correspondence, keeping members informed of upcoming events, reunions, dinners, community functions, and updates on individual alumni and former faculty.
- Provide scholarship assistance to current Morris students.
- Meet regularly with campus principals to strengthen student activities and offer support to Morris Campus students and teachers.
At present, the Association is supporting two campus initiatives:
- First, is the creation of The Morris High School Museum which is currently housed in a dedicated room next to the auditorium. We recently received a Bronx borough-funded grant of $86,000 to be used in the design and development of the museum. Shortly after, Florida alumni raised $400 as a start-up donation to support this initiative.
Currently, we are setting up an Educational Advisory Committee for the museum to develop academic programs and curriculum around museum exhibits which will include alumni and former teachers. Through audio, video, and interactive media, we hope to fulfill our vision of engaging students and the community by displaying the rich history of the school and neighborhood.
- Our second initiative is a campus website. The Association will have its own link, allowing Alumni Association members to keep in touch with former classmates. Furthermore, a link to the museum will publicize ongoing activities, connecting the past, present, and future of Morris classrooms and the Morrisania community.
As a member of the Morris High School Alumni Association you will receive a semi-annual newsletter along with updates on Morris Campus events. As the association grows, so too will membership benefits. Won’t you join us in helping to keep the Morris tradition alive and securing the future of Morris students?
